🎙️A Lawt Going On – June 17, 2025
I’m Katie with The Lawt—
I recruit for law firms, so I know what they want and how to get hired.
There’s a lawt going on in the job market —so here’s your 2-minute news update.
Seven partners, including leaders of the San Francisco office, have left Willkie Farr for Cooley, reportedly in protest of Willkie’s decision to provide pro bono services tied to a Trump-era legal matter.
The New York Times cited unnamed sources saying the group was disappointed by the firm’s cooperation. Reuters couldn’t confirm that—and neither could I.
Job postings at midsize and Big Law firms dropped 32% in May compared to 2024, but Leopard Solutions calls it a “pause,” not a panic.
Craig Savitzky told The American Lawyer that firms are taking a breath before reallocating resources—especially after a whipsaw start to the year.

Kirkland & Ellis has added 100 litigators this year and opened a Philadelphia office to expand its mass tort and product liability defense work.
As claims grow across pharmaceuticals, food, tech, and chemicals, firms are scaling trial teams and adjusting fee models to meet demand.
Much of this boom is pandemic-driven—thousands of paused cases are now moving again, driving demand for litigators.
As we all know, the pandemic brought unexpected changes to the legal world—like lawyers discovering they could practice law effectively without pants. No really, imagine telling Alexander Hamilton after arguing for the ratification of the United States Constitution that in 2020 lawyers would be trying cases in their underwear. Really validates the dramatic irony of his premonition: “There’s a million things I haven’t done, just you wait.” Oooh no really, Alexander, just YOU wait.

That’s your update for now. But there’s always A Lawt Going On—so I’ll see you soon, and I promise to keep it brief but never boring. Ahh, gotta highlight the brilliance of that homonym. Brief as in concise. Legal briefs, boxer briefs. Ok, I’ll see myself out.
